Considering a career in childcare?
Working in the childcare industry is a highly rewarding, creative, fun and flexible profession - find out why it might be right for you!
At Genius Childcare, we are so proud of our experienced, passionate and well-rounded team of educators, and are always on the look-out for fresh faces to join us! If you love children, adore all things creative, and have a passion for making a difference in a little people’s education journey, childcare might just be the career path you’ve been looking for.
Childcare covers the foundational years of education for children, and our Genius educators are privileged to be a part of that journey. We strive to support our staff from the day they walk in our doors and throughout their career, acknowledging their work, appreciating them and offering opportunities for professional development for every age and stage of life!
Here are our top 6 reasons for considering a career in childcare.
1. Variety
Working in childcare provides many experiences and opportunities other industries do not offer. No two days are the same! One day educators find themselves cooking up a storm with their little learners; the next could be a celebration day, dress-up day, craft, or sensory play. There is a wealth of variety in childcare which keeps our educators engaged and thriving. The childcare industry is stable yet always evolving, allowing childcare workers to get creative while enjoying the rewards of their little ones achieving and thriving in their care.
2. Childcare educators develop sought after skills
A career in childcare develops skills that are easily transferable to other industries, should you choose to pursue them. Childcare educators develop skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, high-level communication skills, patience, adaptability, monitoring skills, decision making, and creativity, just to name a few. Childcare educators communicate with many different people throughout the day, including different children, their parents, other educators, and supervisors, teaching the educators how to appropriately approach a range of people and personalities. These are all things that will help our educators in a range of circumstances through the rest of their lives, not just at the centres!
3. Flexible Work
Working in childcare brings multitudes of opportunities for flexibility. Some of Genius's educators are even in high school and work in the school holidays! Childcare provides the flexibility of hours and shifts, which can be worked around study, family life, and personal commitments. Childcare educators can work part-time or full-time, depending on their lifestyle and how many hours they can commit to working. With Genius Childcare centres open at 6.30am and closing at 6.30pm, there are various flexible shifts across the day that can suit your lifestyle. You may be an early bird and prefer to work mornings; if afternoons are more your fit, those shifts work up until 6.30pm. For flexibility and understanding in the workplace, look no further than a career in childcare.
4. Supportive Employer
When choosing a career in childcare, you must find a provider that values their staff and has a vested interest in their professional development. Working in childcare is highly rewarding and provides educators opportunities to contribute their individual skills to their workplace. Your employer must acknowledge the worth of your contribution and your individualised skills. Genius childcare recognises the importance of their educators and what they can bring to the centre; they take pride in providing a supportive and team-based approach to the workplace, providing flexibility and recognising the achievements of those in our team. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without them!
5. Experienced Educators
A clear sign of a great workplace is a happy team that has chosen to continue to grow in their supportive work environment. High staff turnover is a sign that the environment might not be as supportive, or that staff do not feel appreciated in their workplace. At Genius childcare, we are grateful to have many experienced educators in our team, many who have been at their centre for a number of years. The structured team-based environment supports and develops our educators' skills across all areas – from the time they join us and throughout their career. Genius centres have experienced staff, and our team leaders provide the experience our new educators need to settle in and learn. While experienced educators offer training for our new educators, we also continue to develop all of our educators' skills through ongoing training while giving them the independence to share their skills with others.
6. Rewarding and challenging
Childcare is a well-rounded career that allows educators to have fun, be creative, and spread their wings! Being part of the start of the education journey for little learners is so rewarding and valuable to take with children and the team you work with. No two days are the same allowing for flexibility and a continued path of engagement for all educators. A career in childcare can be challenging, like all careers however, the strength of the Genius teams and the professionalism in which they pride themselves ensure educators and the workplace thrives.
